FAQs

Will private treatment affect my NHS care?

Having a consultation or treatment with The Barnes Doctors will not in any way affect the NHS care you receive. We actively work closely with your NHS team to provide the best care for you and your family.

Do you accept private insurance cover?

Yes, we do.  We do advise you to confirm with your insurer that your treatment is covered and get authorisation before making an appointment.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

Please contact us 24 hours prior to your appointment to avoid any charges.  Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged 50% of the appointment fee. However, we do try to be as flexible as possible if an appointment needs to be rearranged.

Are tests included in the consultation fees?

Any tests recommended as part of your care will be discussed with you at the time, including any additional fees.

Can I have a virtual consultation?

Yes, we can offer both video and telephone consultations by prior arrangement at your request.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment online via this website, by telephone or by email.

What does the consultation fee include?

The consultation fee covers the time you are with the doctor and any standard examinations that may be carried out at that time. Administration that arises from your consultation such as writing prescriptions, making referrals and sick notes are also included in the consultation fee.

If you require any tests, these will be discussed with you along with any additional costs in the consultation. If additional paperwork needs to be completed, it will also be discussed in the consultation. Invoices are raised and paid for immediately after the consultation.

Can The Barnes Doctors write a prescription and provide repeat prescriptions?

Yes, we can prescribe anything that your NHS GP can prescribe. We can also support some medications which are difficult to get through the NHS if they are medically appropriate.

Does The Barnes Doctors treat overseas visitors?

Yes we do. You just register and book in like anyone else. We work with some insurance providers directly but most need you to pay then claim it back. We will provide you with receipt of payment.

Is my data protected?

We adhere to current data protection regulation in the UK. For patients registered with The Barnes Doctors, we hold data on the basis of ‘vital interests’ and hold that data for the recommended period from the Information Governance Alliance. Should you wish to be removed from our database or to see the information we hold, please email us or contact us on 020 4641 0000.
